Bible Verses: Identity in Christ

>> Back to Embracing Your Identity in Christ

John 1:12, NIV
Yet to all who received him (Christ), to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

Philippians 4:13, NKJV

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 2:13, NLT

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Romans 6:6-7, NLT

We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.

Romans 8:9-13, NIV

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness…. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation–but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

John 1:12, NIV

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

1 John 3:1, NIV

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are!  The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Matthew 5:14-16, TNIV

“You are the light of the world … let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

James 1:2-4, NIV

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Romans 8:28, NIV

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:31, NIV

If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:35-39, NLT

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 8:31-32, NIV

Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Philippians 4:6-7, NIV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:1-4, NIV

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Philippians 1:6, NLT

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

2 Timothy 1:7, NIV

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Ephesians 2:10, NLT

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
