Living a Supernatural Life in Christ

When you embrace your identity in Christ, you have available to you God’s power through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables you to experience God’s power, freedom, peace, happiness and victory.

God’s Power

In Christ, you have been given power to demolish strongholds of evil deception, overcome the controlling effects of the world system, do God’s will, fulfill His purposes, and overcome the forces of evil.

Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” When we allow God’s strength and power to work through us we can face life with confidence. God’s supernatural power is available to you because you are His child.

God’s Freedom

In Christ, you have been set free from the bondage of sin and guilt, the spirit of rejection, the yoke of satanic deception, worry and anxiety, and all fear–including the fear of evil, death, and hell.

God expects you to enjoy the freedom that you have been given in Christ. Imagine a life free from the bondage of sin and deception. A life where feelings of guilt and rejection are quickly handled as you apply God’s truth. Imagine being so secure in your relationship with God and in your dependence on His promises that your life is virtually free of worry and fear!

Most people spend all of their earthly existence trying to structure a life that offers these benefits. And yet it is completely impossible apart from God. It is only as we believe God for what we’ve been given in Christ and follow Him in obedience that this kind of lifestyle can become reality.

God’s Peace and Happiness

In Christ, you will experience peace and happiness. God’s peace and happiness transcend our circumstances. God is even more committed to our happiness and well being than we are. He expects us to experience a life of peace and happiness because we are trusting in Him. It is a peace that can be ours in the midst of crisis. It’s a joy that can be experienced in the midst of tragedy. But it’s only possible as we live in Christ, above the circumstances of our life. Daily ask God to give you His peace and happiness and find ways to appropriate His promises to your life.

God’s Victory

In Christ, you will overcome adversity. A supernatural lifestyle is not free of misery, pain and suffering because we live in a fallen world. Adverse circumstances are life’s laboratory in which God develops our character. The world judges life by the quality of favorable circumstances that surround the individual. God judges the life by the growth of the individual’s character, which is manifested in the midst of adversity. Adverse circumstances provide a showcase to demonstrate the quality of God’s workmanship in us to the watching hosts of the universe. Adverse circumstances also occur because life is lived in a cosmic war zone. The doomed forces of evil are doing their worst to damage the unshakable kingdom of the invincible King.

God doesn’t expect us to just endure adversity. He expects us to triumph over it. He wants us to trust Him to work in and through our difficulties so that we actually benefit from them. Instead of being destroyed by adversity, God wants us to use those hardships to our advantage. No matter what happens in Christ, we can’t lose, because He enables us to be super conquerors.

Practical Steps

There are three practical steps you can take to experience a supernatural life in Christ:

  1. Believe what God says is true about you, instead of what seems natural. Following natural instincts inhibits supernatural living. Be patient — reprogramming your soul to act consistently with your new identity is a gradual process. But don’t give up! 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us, “We live by faith, not by sight.”
  2. Learn all you can about your new identity and capabilities for supernatural living. Ignorance, lack of understanding, and an unwillingness to live by faith are key barriers to experiencing God’s best in life. Romans 12:2 reminds us, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
  3. Routinely thank God in your devotional time for the various aspects of who you are in Christ and the supernatural capabilities He has granted you. You can use Ephesians 1:3 as a starting point: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
